Why in the world would I make Sprout free?
The short answer would be — the idea behind it, made the choice for me.
--
I made Sprout to make it effortless to launch a website for you — the talented photographer that you are. I know how it is when you are just starting out doing something you love. You count the days to when you can make enough money with what you are so passionate about and quite that job that you might not be so fond of. Or maybe you are still a student and what you make is barely enough to keep you afloat or you have no job at all.
Paying a monthly fee for a web hosting or a website building service most likely is out of the picture. Of course you can always use a free site builder that is made to be used for anything and everything possible. These come with templates that are good on paper, but they leave you wishing for more. You see, these templates and the platform itself are not made for photography, so they lack the focus on what is important — your brilliant photos.
If it’s free, so what’s in it for me then?
I’m not going to say that I don’t want to make money from this, I do! But I don’t what to monetize the service itself, because this defeats the purpose of it all. I don’t want to put limitations either by having free and premium subscriptions. I want you to have all the features there are right from the get go. I don’t like this sort of restrictions myself, so I don’t want to do it to you ;)
How then am I going to fund this endeavor? I have put a Patreon page out, so if you love using Sprout and able to support me, you can, for which I am tremendously grateful! The idea is that you don’t have to, but if you feel like it, you can throw a buck or two my way. Most of the donations I’ll get, I plan to put back into the platform to get better servers and infrastructure. Donations will also allow me to spend more time developing the platform, making it better and adding new features.
Before you go
Now that you know why it is free, go ahead and create your awesome website and most importantly — enjoy it! Thanks for reading and being a part of this awesome journey that I’ve set myself on. Take care ;)
